Co-Curricular Activities

St Joseph's College strives to provide the students all necessary assistance and opportunities for their intellectual, emotional, spiritual and skills development. The key objective of this college is to provide value based education that would enable the students to finally transform themselves into agents of social change. With this goal in mind the College offers the following programmes.

National Cadet Corps (NCC): Students interested in a military career, in their character formation and training in disciplined life are encouraged to join the college units of the NCC (Boys and Girls).

National Service Scheme (NSS): Students interested in social service and welfare by helping the less privileged people in society, team building, character formation and service to the college are encouraged to join the college unit of the NSS.

All India Catholic University students Federation (AICUE): Students who like to develop a critical and creative approach to life, involve in studies and activities linked to broader social issues and struggles with a view to become a constructive force within the college and outside, are encouraged to join the AICUF unit, irrespective of their religions.

Women's Cell: It has been set up as part of the AICUF to bring about greater awareness and responsibility among students about issues affecting women, keeping in mind the motto of AICUF "we were born in an unjust world and we will not leave it as we have found it". Students are encouraged to join the Women's Cell to become a creative task force to bring about equality in our Society.

Centre for studies in Rural Economy, Appropriate Technology and Environment (CREATE): CREATE aims to involve the students and the staff in carrying out socio -economic studies and to disseminate the results among the stake holders in this region who work for its development. It also provides the students with an exposure to the complex social dynamics of the region.

Current Affairs Forum (CAF): It aims to make our students aware of the changing socio-political, cultural and economic trends by organizing seminars, wall paper magazines and project work.

Nature Club: This club was set up to generate environmental awareness amongst members through participation in various activities in and outside the college.

Career Guidance Cell: The Career Guidance Cell was set up in 2004 with the twin objectives of organizing campus recruitment interviews and helping students with higher studies.

Information and Technology Club (ITC): The ITC is organised and conducted by the Department of Computer Science. ITC tries to bring about awareness about the latest developments in the field of IT through seminars, quiz and other such programmes.

Film Club: Established in May 2004, the Film Club is the forum that enables the students energise the meaning of education. Its logo is FFOCUS - Film Focus on Challenging and Unjust Society and its aims are:
  1. Upgrading the relevance of education at the undergraduate level,
  2. To sensitise the academic community to the structural biases in society,
  3. To promote current debates centering visual representation,
  4. To build a visual archives in the hills, particularly in respect to its history and developments.
Management Club: The Management Club was started by the Department of BBA to learn the skills of management through practical exercises.

Cultural Programmes: Apart from the above activities, the college organizes various cultural programmes, quiz, one-act plays, debates, elocution, extempore contests, seminars, workshops, etc., in a departmental or inter-departmental basis.

Lab Assisted Personality Schooling (LAPS): LAPS aims at using language lab to improve one's language skills in order to be effective listeners and communicators. Through film reviews and group discussions the learners may learn social etiquette and other soft skills leading to personality development.

Sports and Games: Sports and games are part of College life. These are organised from seasonally and all students are encouraged to take part in them. We expect all our students to join in one or more of these activities during their stay in the college.
